A brand-new A320neo airplane was delivered to China Eastern Air Holding Co. Ltd (China Eastern) on Oct 12 at Airbus's delivery center in North China's Tianjin Municipality.
It was powered with five percent Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in its maiden flight from Tianjin to Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi Province.
SAF refers to the alternative fuel produced from waste animal fat and vegetable oil, municipal solid waste and forestry and agricultural residue.
Compared to traditional fossil fuel, SAF can reduce carbon emissions by 85 percent during its production and usage.
The SAF used in the maiden flight was made from waste cooking oil by Sinopec Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Company and was China's first domestically-made SAF since the country's first SAF industrial facility began mass production.
