On March 30, the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC)'s first 155,000-ton power positioning shuttle tanker, "Nuosi Xianfeng", was officially delivered in Dalian.
"With the delivery and operation of 'Nuosi Xianfeng,' the CNOOC will become China's first company to operate power positioning tankers in both international and domestic waters, and also the first company to enter the international power positioning tankers market," said the head of the CNOOC Petrochemicals Import & Export Co.,Ltd. (CPIEC).
The CPIEC commissioned Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co Ltd (DSIC), a subsidiary of the China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited, to build the tanker, which is tailored for the Chinese share of the Buzios and Mero oil fields and has full independent intellectual property rights in China.
The tanker has a total length of 279 meters, a beam of 48 meters, and a depth of 23.7 meters. It is equipped with an industry-leading power positioning system and a new bow loading system, and is built according to the latest technical specifications of Petrobras, a Brazilian national oil company. Leading similar tankers worldwide in loading capacity, the tanker has low energy consumption and good maneuverability. Its carbon emissions per unit ton of cargo per nautical mile is about 25 percent lower than the baseline volume, which means it is able to reduce CO2 emissions by nearly 7,000 tons every year.
Upon delivery, "Nuosi Xianfeng" will carry out oil lifting operations at a deep-water oil field in Brazil, where the climate is changeable, with high winds and waves and harsh environmental conditions, which makes power positioning particularly demanding.
"As a Suezmax power positioning shuttle tanker, 'Nuosi Xianfeng' is capable of providing strong support in the CNOOC's deep-sea oil lifting and transportation in international waters," said the head of the DSIC.
