China Delivers World's Largest 24,100 TEU Ultra-Large Container Ship

MSC RAYA, the world's largest 24,100 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) ultra-large container ship, was recently delivered to its buyer.

The ship was specially developed by Jiangnan Shipyard (Group) Co., Ltd. and China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd., both subsidiaries of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited for the Bank of Communications Financial Leasing Co., Ltd. (BOCOM Leasing) and Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A (MSC).

With an overall length of 399.99 meters, a width of 61.5 meters and a depth of 33.2 meters, the ship is designed by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd. and has been registered in the Det Norske Veritas (DNV).

It has a deck area of nearly four standard football pitches and a maximum stack height of 25 layers of containers, equaling the height of a 22-story building. It can carry 24,116 containers, making it the largest vessel of its kind in the world.

The ship is equipped with hybrid desulfurization facilities and adopts brand-new green and environmentally-protective, highly-efficient, energy-saving and safe designs.

The second ship of the type is now undertaking the mooring test at the dock and is scheduled for trial navigation this May, while the third one is scheduled to be launched this month.
