Sinomach-Developed Digital Gravity Meters Support Antarctic Science Investigation

Updated: May 18, 2023

Digital gravity meters developed by China National Machinery Industry Corporation (Sinomach) played a key role in China's recently completed 39th Antarctic expedition.

It was the first time a China-made digital relative gravity meter was used to measure gravity in the Antarctic.

The gravity meter was independently developed by Sinomach's Beijing Aodi Detection Instruments Co., Ltd. All the gravity meters performed normally under the extremely-low temperature and high-altitude environment in the polar region, showing the device's applicability in the Antarctic expedition with high accuracy, stability and reliability.

The gravity meter is mainly used in energy exploration for oil, gas and coal fields, exploration of metallic and non-metallic mineral resources, observation of geological disasters, measurement of the Earth's gravity field, solid Earth tide observation, and observation of crustal deformation as well as earthquake prediction.
