Intercity railways from Foshan to Dongguan and from Guangzhou to Foshan have officially been put into operation.
The two newly opened intercity railways are connected with the already opened ones from Dongguan to Huizhou and from Foshan to Zhaoqing, forming an east-west railway line in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The Foshan-Dongguan Intercity Railway was constructed by China Railway Guangzhou Engineering Group Co., Ltd and China Railway Wuhan Electrification Engineering Group Co., Ltd., subsidiaries of China Railway Group Limited.
The Foshan-Dongguan Intercity Railway spans 37 kilometers and has five stations, with a maximum operating speed of 200 kilometers per hour.
The line, formed by four intercity railways, covers a total length of 258 kilometers. It is expected to fully leverage Guangzhou's role as a core city, incorporating the central urban areas of Foshan and Dongguan into Guangzhou's half-hour commuting circle, and Zhaoqing and Huizhou into Guangzhou's one-hour commuting circle. This development will accelerate the formation of a new rail transit pattern in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
