On November 17, China's first domestically designed and built deep-ocean drilling vessel called “Mengxiang”, or "Dream," was officially commissioned in Guangzhou, South China’s Guangdong province, marking a significant breakthrough in China's deep-sea exploration technology.
Designed and built by China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited and several other enterprises, the vessel leads the way in drilling and mining globally, with a maximum drilling depth of up to 11,000 meters. It features four drilling modes and three core retrieval methods, offering the potential to assist global scientists in realizing the dream of penetrating the Earth's crust and entering its depth.
It is expected to provide significant support for deep-sea resource exploration in China, research and development of key technological equipment, and ocean drilling research.
