On October 31, 2024, the phase III project of the Mero Oilfield in Brazil, the world’s third largest pre-salt ultra-deepwater oilfield, partly constructed by China National Offshore Oil Corporation has commenced production.

The overall daily crude oil production capacity of the Mero Oilfield will increase to 590,000 barrels, injecting strong momentum into the China-Brazil energy cooperation.

The pre-salt ultra-deepwater oilfields represent one of the emerging areas in the global petroleum industry and an important trend for future development, characterized by deep reservoirs, challenging development, and high production rates.
