On November 30, the grid-side ultra-capacity grid-connected static var generator (SVG), developed and constructed by State Grid Corporation of China, began operations in Northwest China’s Xizang autonomous region.
The construction project includes modular multi-level converters, water-cooled control rooms, super capacitor rooms, and other components. It marks the first application of cutting-edge technology in the flexible DC field, utilizing a modular multi-level converter and super capacitor topology. Additionally, it used super capacitors and high-altitude insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) components for the first time, representing the forefront of technology in China's power industry.
This project fills a technological gap in the support of reactive power for power compensation devices.
