CPPCC Member Highlights Technological Innovation and Green Transformation for High-Quality Growth

Updated: March 13, 2025

At the just-concluded annual session of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, China’s top political advisory body, Jiang Yi, a member of the CPPCC National Committee and chairman of China Huadian Corporation LTD. (CHD), a central state-owned enterprise (SOE), emphasized that self-reliance and self-improvement in science and technology are essential pathways for enterprises to achieve high-quality development.

Jiang said that central SOEs, as crucial components of the country's strategic technological force, serve as key hubs in the country’s innovation chain.

CHD’s self-developed products cover coal-fired power, gas turbines, hydropower, wind power, and more, leading the way in research and development and being applied on a large scale, he said. This has effectively facilitated the transformation of technological achievements into new quality productive forces, he added.

Noting green development underpins high-quality growth, Jiang said that CHD has actively integrated into national strategies, practicing the green development philosophy to meet the target of carbon peak and carbon neutrality.

The company has been expanding effective investments, achieving a total installed capacity of 240 million kilowatts for power generation, he said, adding renewable energy installations exceed 100 million kilowatts, with clean energy accounting for 56.2 percent of the total, accelerating the pace of green development.

While promoting green transformation, Jiang emphasized that CHD consistently upholds its political responsibility for ensuring energy security.

Over the past three years, the company has cumulatively generated 2.04 trillion kilowatt-hours, provided 1.362 billion gigajoules of heating, and produced 169 million tons of coal. The stability, security, and sustainability of energy supply have continuously strengthened, effectively safeguarding energy demands for economic and social development, Jiang said, highlighting the importance of ensuring power generation, heating supply, and public welfare.

Regarding green development, Jiang emphasized the necessity of steadfastly advancing renewable energy development, seizing the strategic opportunity for constructing a new power system to vigorously promote green and low-carbon development, accelerate the development and construction of major new energy bases in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and Qinghai Province.

CHD aims to significantly expand the scale of renewable energy, particularly new energy, and lay a solid foundation for Chinese modernization featuring a harmonious coexistence between man and nature, he said.

In terms of technological innovation, Jiang underscored the need to promote the integration of technological and industrial innovation, actively advance the large-scale application of new technologies, products and scenarios.

CHD is striving to build an innovative application system featuring "artificial intelligence +", and accelerate the establishment of a strategic emerging industry cluster, he said.
