Yang Changli, chairman of China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN), has called for greater efforts to ensure high-quality development and high-level security in energy supply. He also called for green transformation efforts in the sector to be intensified.
Yang, who is also a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), China’s top political advisory body, made the proposal during the just-concluded annual two sessions.

He said that the high-quality development guided by ecological civilization and green, low-carbon growth has become an essential path towards building a comprehensively modern socialist country.
It was highlighted by the Government Work Report that, in 2024, the newly installed capacity of renewable energy reached 370 million kilowatts. This year, efforts will be made to advance the realization of the goal of carbon peak and carbon neutrality.
In recent years, clean energy sources such as nuclear power and new energy within CGN have exceeded an installed capacity of over 100 million kilowatts, which made the company emerge as a significant force driving the low-carbon transformation of China's energy sector.
At present, CGN has 28 operating nuclear power units and another 16 under construction domestically, with a total installed capacity of 51.162 gigawatts. Among the units under construction, 14 nuclear power units utilize China's self-developed third-generation nuclear technology, the Hualong One. CGN's construction of the "Hualong One” nuclear reactors in large scale is progressing steadily.
CGN has been advancing the diversified development of the new energy industry, covering various fields such as wind power, photovoltaics, solar thermal, energy storage, and pumped storage, propelling the green transformation of the energy and also exploring a sustainable development path that balances ecological and economic benefits.
Yang said that promoting green transformation is currently at a critical juncture. He called for greater efforts, higher standard and practical measures to promote high-quality development and high-level security of energy sector.
Efforts should be made to accelerate breakthroughs in clean energy technologies, innovative ways in allocating the factors of production, and intensify transformation and upgrading of industries, he said.
