Henan Expands Its Global Logistics Network Through Enhanced Air Silk Road

Updated: April 11, 2025

A Boeing 747-400F freighter, carrying 95 tons of cross-border e-commerce goods, recently took off from Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport, heading towards East Midlands Airport in Derby, England.

This flight is operated by China Gate Logistics Group Co., Ltd.(CGL) in collaboration with One Air, a British all-cargo airline. The launch of this route marks the opening of Henan’s first Zhengzhou-Derby cross-border e-commerce freighter service, establishing a highly efficient and convenient air logistics channel for trade between Henan and Europe.

East Midlands Airport is the second largest cargo hub in the UK, located about 160 kilometers from London, and serves the air transport needs of London and the surrounding areas. The new route will further enhance the connection between Zhengzhou and key European logistics hubs, expanding the coverage of the international logistics network and providing efficient logistical support for Chinese manufacturing to enter the European market.

Zhengzhou Airport has added five new international freight routes this year, including those to Bielefeld and Abu Dhabi. CGL has also launched six new cross-border e-commerce freighter routes from Zhengzhou to Istanbul, Zurich, Liege, Madrid, Budapest and Derby.

With the opening of new routes and the strengthening of existing ones, Henan’s cross-border e-commerce sector is soaring to new heights. Data shows that in January and February, the Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone handled 35.08 million cross-border e-commerce shipments, with both export volume and value doubling compared to the previous year. In the first quarter, Henan’s bonded logistics zone saw cross-border e-commerce imports and exports worth 8.12 billion yuan ($1.11 billion), a 92.2 percent increase year-on-year, with 26.41 million shipments, up by 74.15 percent.
